HIHR offers a platform for researchers to connect in an informal setting with agents in the life sciences industry. Getting feedback from these experts could help you understand the potential of your technology. The HIHR Quickfire sessions and pitch-events are a great chance to bridge the gap from early academic innovations to real-world impact.

KTO Meet up, November 20 2024 – morning
Following the success of our first edition in Antwerp, we organise our second KTO-meetup, this time in collaboration with Industry representatives.
For this meetup we’re taking an unusual ‘cut’ on the KTO role. Instead of the usual ‘technology push’ situation we’re asking how we deal with requests for specific technologies, tools and expertise from businesses. The theme was specifically requested by one HIHR supporter from a major research-intensive business who observed that it is usually difficult to penetrate the university and identify any researcher who might be able to help – and then to gain their attention and interest. They assume that the KTO is the right ‘one-stop-shop’ since they know who’s doing what. The KTO should also know how to formalise any collaboration. However, their experience of using KTOs in this regard has been ‘mixed’. This seems a fruitful theme to discuss together and so we asked the partner to provide a couple of examples of problems (one for technology, the other for expertise) that they would have liked some help. We’ll use these as the basis for discussion and see what common issues emerge and whether anyone has deliberately set themselves up as an effective portal for such industry requests. Maybe we conclude that it isn’t our role in which case there’s some value in making this explicit!
The meetup will take place in Vredenburg Social Impact Factory (see hereunder), starts at 10am and will end on time for lunch. Registration can be done at the KTO-registration form.
